Once you collect your luggage and clear customs, you will be greeted warmly by your Trekking Group Leader or our Office Representative with a "Mystical Nepal Treks" board who will assist you and transfer you to your hotel.

Although Kathmandu is the busiest city in Nepal with hectic traffic, it still holds a unique charm with its local beauty and lively atmosphere. You will enjoy the fun of driving through its unfamiliar roads. The drive to the hotel will take you through Kathmandu’s lively streets, where the old and new come together. You’ll pass by ancient temples, busy markets, and modern shops, all blending into the colorful culture of Nepal. Brief introduction about your trip.

Early arrival gives you a chance to explore Kathmandu.Enjoy your time and relax as you prepare for your trek ahead!

Leaving behind the bustling streets of Kathmandu, your journey to Pokhara takes you along the Prithvi Highway, one of Nepal’s most scenic routes. The drive offers stunning views of terraced hills, quaint villages, and the Trishuli River, where you may spot rafters navigating its rapids.

As you wind through lush green landscapes, the towering peaks of the Ganesh Himal appear leaving the valley rim, Annapurna ranges occasionally peek through the horizon, offering a glimpse of the adventure ahead. The road passes through charming towns and roadside markets, where vendors sell fresh fruits and local snacks—a perfect opportunity for a quick refreshment break.

Upon reaching Pokhara, Nepal’s serene lake city, you’ll be greeted by the tranquil waters of Phewa Lake, with the majestic Machapuchare (Fishtail) Mountain reflecting on its surface. With its relaxed atmosphere, vibrant lakeside cafés, and breathtaking mountain views, Pokhara is the perfect place to unwind before the next leg of your adventure.

The journey begins with a scenic one-hour drive to Nayapul (1,070m), the trek’s starting point. Crossing a suspension bridge over the Bhurgundi Khola, the trail gradually ascends through terraced fields and charming villages. After an hour of walking, you reach Syauli Bazaar (1,220m / 4,003ft), a small settlement where you can take a short break before continuing.

From here, the ascent becomes steeper as you follow stone steps through lush forests and terraced farmlands, passing through Kimche (1,640m / 5,380ft). As you climb higher, the landscape opens up, revealing panoramic views of Annapurna South (7,219m), Hiunchuli (6,441m), and Machhapuchhre (6,993m). After a steady and rewarding climb, you reach Ghandruk, a stunning Gurung village known for its traditional houses, rich culture, and breathtaking Himalayan backdrop.

Upon arrival, you can explore the Gurung Museum and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Headquarters, learning about the region’s unique flora, fauna, and history.

Altitude: 1,950m / 6,398ft

Distance: Approx. 9 km

Duration: 5 hours

Accomodation: Teahouse

Leaving behind the picturesque Gurung village of Ghandruk, you begin your trek with a descent through lush rhododendron and oak forests. The trail meanders downhill, offering stunning views of the Annapurna Massif, especially Annapurna South (7,219m) and Hiunchuli (6,441m), with Machhapuchhre (6,993m) standing tall in the distance.

As you make your way down towards Kimrong Khola (river), the descent is quite steep in some sections, so watch your footing. After about 2 hours of trekking, you reach the Kimrong Khola bridge. This is a great spot to take a break, enjoy the refreshing river breeze, and soak in the serene atmosphere before continuing onward.

From the river, the trail gradually ascends towards Komrong Danda (2,200m / 7,218ft), where you can stop for lunch at a teahouse. The climb up to Komrong Danda is challenging, with steep switchbacks that demand a steady pace. However, the breathtaking mountain views make every step worth it.

After a well-earned rest and a hearty meal, the trail descends once again through terraced fields and small settlements before reaching Chomrong—a beautiful Gurung village perched on the hillside. Chomrong is the last major settlement before entering the Annapurna Sanctuary, and it offers comfortable lodges with spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.

At the end of the day, you can relax on a teahouse balcony, sipping warm tea while watching the sunset cast golden hues on Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.

Altitude: 2,060m / 6,759ft

Distance: Approx. 10 km

Duration: 6 hours

Accomodation: Teahouse

Leaving Chomrong, the trail descends steep stone steps to the Chomrong Khola (1,900m / 6,234ft), a beautiful river flowing through the valley. After crossing a suspension bridge, a steep ascent begins, leading to Sinuwa (2,340m / 7,677ft), a small village surrounded by dense rhododendron and bamboo forests. This climb is tough, but once you reach Sinuwa, you can enjoy a short break with magnificent views of the snow-capped peaks.

From here, the trail gradually ascends through Upper Sinuwa (2,360m / 7,742ft) before entering the dense bamboo forest of the Annapurna Sanctuary. This section is peaceful, with towering bamboo, oak, and rhododendron trees providing a cool and shaded walk.

After about 2-3 hours, you reach Bamboo (2,310m / 7,578ft), where you can stop for lunch. The trail then continues on an undulating path, crossing small streams and wooden bridges before the final ascent to Dovan (2,600m). This small settlement offers a few teahouses, making it a perfect place to rest before the next day’s climb to Deurali.

Altitude: 2,600m / 8,530ft

Distance: Approx. 9 km

Duration: 6 hours

Accomodation: Teahouse

Today’s trek is a spiritual and scenic journey into higher altitudes. The trail follows the Modi Khola, passing through dense forests and occasional landslide-prone sections. After about an hour, you reach Himalaya (2,920m / 9,580ft), a small settlement near the sacred Baraha Than, a shrine dedicated to the deity Baraha. It is considered good luck to leave flowers or prayer flags at the shrine.

Beyond Himalaya, the trail becomes steeper as you ascend towards Hinko Cave (3,100m / 10,170ft). This natural rock shelter has been historically used as a resting place for porters, and it provides a unique glimpse into the traditional trekking routes of the past.

From Hinko Cave, the final stretch to Deurali (3,225m / 10,580ft) is challenging, with a steep ascent over rocky terrain. However, the effort is rewarded with breathtaking views of Machhapuchhre and the glacier-covered peaks ahead. Deurali is the last settlement before Machhapuchhre Base Camp, making it an important acclimatization stop.

As you settle in for the night, the towering mountains create an awe-inspiring atmosphere, setting the stage for the thrilling ascent into the Annapurna Sanctuary.

Altitude: 3,225m / 10,580ft

Distance: Approx 7 km

Duration: 5 hours

Accomodation: Teahouse

As we leave Deurali (3230m) behind, the valley narrows into a dramatic gorge, leading us deeper into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. The trail follows the river, offering the choice to walk on either side depending on the conditions.

After about two hours, we reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC - 3700m), a stunning grassy plateau with several lodges, surrounded by soaring, snow-covered peaks. This marks our entrance into one of the most breathtaking high-altitude sanctuaries in the Himalayas.

Altitude : 3700m/ 12,139 feet

Duration: 2-3 hours

Accomodation: Teahouse

An early start rewards you with breathtaking sunrise views over the Annapurna Sanctuary. Though waking up before dawn may be tough, witnessing the golden first light hitting the Himalayan giants is an unforgettable experience.

After soaking in the beauty of ABC, it’s time to bid farewell to the trekking crew. Only the group leaders will accompany you for the helicopter ride back to Pokhara. As you take off, marvel at the aerial view of the Annapurna region—lush valleys, glacial rivers, and dramatic mountain ridges stretching as far as the eye can see.

Essential Information

Terrain & Trail Difficulty

The trek to Annapurna Base Camp involves trekking through lush valleys, dense rhododendron forests, and rocky moraine landscapes. The terrain varies, with some steep sections and high-altitude areas, especially as you approach ABC. The journey takes trekkers through a range of environments, and with each step, the altitude and climate conditions change, so it's important to be well-prepared. Difficulty Level: Moderate – suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness.

Trekkers should make sure that they are fit and ready for the uphill challenge, as the trail has some steep ascents. Altitude sickness can be a concern as you get higher, so trekking gradually, staying hydrated, and getting plenty of rest is essential.

 Altitude Sickness Concerns

The risk of altitude sickness is likely possible on the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek, especially as you trek above 4,000 meters. Starting the trek from the lowland areas like Nayapul at 1,070 meters, you will ascend to Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters. As the altitude increases, trekkers who are not accustomed to high elevations may experience symptoms of altitude sickness.

The best way to avoid altitude sickness on the ABC trek is by ascending gradually. Take your time, enjoy the surroundings, and allow your body to adjust to the increasing altitude. Stay well-hydrated, eat enough food, and make sure to rest when needed. Bottom line is never rush your itinerary as some of the destinations are pretty close in terms of walking duration hourly. When trekkers make hasty climb in quick time that is not commendable.

Symptoms of Altitude Sickness:

  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Difficulty breathing, especially with exertion
  • Insomnia or trouble sleeping
  • Loss of appetite

By following a steady pace, taking rest days, and staying aware of any symptoms, you can greatly reduce the risk of altitude sickness on the Annapurna Base Camp trek. Our professional Group Leader is well equipped for any mountain ailments and worst case senerios. We bring extensive Medical kit with us on all our treks. So stay calm and enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas, lush valleys, and the beautiful ABC landscape, all while taking care of your health during the journey.
