How is the Trek like
Starting from Beni or Nayapul, this trek takes you through picturesque villages, terraced fields, and lush forests. As you ascend, you are treated to sweeping views of the majestic Annapurna Range, Dhaulagiri, Machapuchare, and other towering peaks.
The trek leads you to the Moharre Danda, a viewpoint perched high in the hills with breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. From here, trekkers can enjoy panoramic vistas that extend across the entire region. As you continue your journey towards Khopra, you will traverse through rhododendron forests, traditional villages, and vast alpine meadows.
Khopra Ridge is the highlight of the trek, offering a secluded yet spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. From here, trekkers can take an optional side trek to the Khopra Danda (Khopra Ridge) viewpoint, which offers close-up views of the surrounding peaks like Annapurna South, Machapuchare, and Nilgiri. The trek then heads towards Swanta Village, and finally descends back to the road head.
The trek also offers a unique cultural experience, as you pass through Gurung and Magar villages where the locals practice traditional farming and follow ancient customs.

Who can do this trek and how to prepare
This trek is a moderate level of difficulty, and it is suitable for trekkers who have some experience or a good level of fitness. It involves trekking for 6-7 hours a day, with significant elevation gains, so you need to be prepared for long days of walking at high altitudes. However, the trail is relatively well-maintained, and the altitude is not as extreme as other treks, making it achievable for trekkers with a reasonable level of stamina.
It’s important to be in good physical shape for the trek, as there will be long ascents and descents. You can prepare for the trek by doing regular aerobic exercises, strength training, and practice hikes in varying terrain. It’s also a good idea to spend some time at moderate altitudes beforehand to acclimatize your body to the thinner air.
Pack well for the trek, bringing essential items like sturdy trekking boots, warm layers (especially for the colder nights), a sleeping bag, and a good water purification system. Also, don’t forget your camera, as the landscapes here are picture-perfect.
Altitude Sickness
While the Khopra Trek does not ascend to the extreme altitudes of the Annapurna Base Camp trek or Everest Base Camp, altitude sickness can still be a concern due to the altitude gain.
Starting at Beni or Nayapul at around 1,000 meters, you will gradually ascend to Khopra Ridge at around 3,660 meters. Since this is not a very high altitude trek, the risk of altitude sickness is lower compared to other high-altitude treks, but it’s always wise to be cautious.
Follow the same precautions as any high-altitude trek:
- Ascend gradually to give your body time to adjust.
- Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
- Eat enough food and take rest breaks to avoid exhaustion.
- If you feel any symptoms like headaches, dizziness, or nausea, rest immediately and descend to lower altitudes.
